Finally got a day free of busy so was able to jump into some musical goodness.
- First thing’s first: how in the heck did I manage to go almost 33 years on this planet and never bump into this masterpiece of French electro pop from Cosmo Vitelli?!?!?!!
Come for the awesome track, stay for the delightfully bonkers clip!
- Now while I love a lot of Squarepusher‘s discography I have been left somewhat disappointed by his output of the last decade. I quite liked 2006’s Hello Everything but coming after the 2003 magnum opus that is Ultravistor I couldn’t help but feel it lacking. Just A Souvenir in 2008 just magnified those feelings of unfulfillment.
The negative reviews which greeted 2010’s Squarepusher Presents Shobaleader One: d’Demonstrator stamped to death any prospectic I may have had in checking it out. And so essentially Tom Jenkinson‘s recent output just fell off my radar. 2012’s Ufabulum and last year’s Damogen Furies have, sadly, been pretty much bypassed by this listener (despite hearing reports here and there that they’re his better releases in a while – what can I say, a period of apathy is a hard thing to break).
Well… today I did stumble upon a used copy of d’Demonstrator going extremely cheaply and decided to try it out. Yeah… so far it’s not brilliant ~however! I have very much taken a shine to the opener Plug Me In.
I think it’s a lovely example of gentle and downcast atmospheric r&b/pop-rock/ehhhh….
- Totally totally on board with It Means I Love You, the first track off the new Jessy Lanza record Oh No.
Her debut album, Pull My Hair Back, was my favourite album of 2013.
